The additional period, either period 27 or 53 according to your pay frequency, can be used for the first period in the new year. See the table below for details.
For example, you can use period 53 for a week beginning on a Sunday and ending on Saturday for which the pay is issued the following Thursday.

- For the additional period, 53 of 2008, the dates are the same as those for period 01 of 2009. Thus, only the payment issue date is different. As long as you have not performed the Year-end Procedure in Payroll, you cannot issue pays for the next year.
- Remember that if you use the additional period for the current year, the next year will simply begin with period 02.

Note that if you issue your first pay for 2009 on January 1st, you must use the additional period from 2008. According to the law, a pay can neither be issued on a holiday nor the day before. Therefore, in this situation, the pay must be issued on December 31, 2008 using the additional period from 2008.
